Shannon Fisher is the host of Our Lives with Shannon Fisher on the Authors on the Air Radio Global Network. She is also among a small team of hosts of the National Press Club’s Update-1 podcast, which addresses issues in the media as they relate to current events. Her passion is the exploration of the human experience, and Shannon strives to enact positive change in the world – one day, one issue, and one person at a time.

Shannon’s social and political commentary delves deeply into issues that matter to Americans has been published in a wide variety of national, international, and regional publications. Raising awareness of issues relating to human rights, sociology, politics, and public health is Shannon’s raison d’être. She was named a “Woman Who Inspires” by Svaha USA and among the “Richmonders of the Year” by Style Weekly Magazine, honored with colleagues for her activism in women’s rights. She was listed as one of the 20 most influential people in women’s rights in the country by PPAV in 2014.

A lifelong student of society and government, Shannon received a B.A. from The College of William and Mary, where she studied public policy, public speaking, sociology, and performing arts. She is a graduate of the year-long Political Leaders Program at the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership at The University of Virginia and has continued her education with courses in Journalism for Social Change at the University of California, Berkeley, Investigative Journalism at Columbia University, and U.S. Government at Harvard University. She is a member of both the National Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists.
